About solid shampoo bars

What Are Solid Shampoo Bars?

Shampoo bars (which I love) are natural conditioning shampoos in a solid bar form. Although they may seem new to many, solid soap shampoos were commonly used before liquid detergent shampoos became popular in the 1940’s.

If you are not used to solid shampoo bars, the concept may sound a bit strange, but they are WONDERFUL! They are super rich with loads of fluffy lather. Our natural shampoo bars are made in small batches using recipes carefully developed to naturally clean and condition your scalp and leave your hair soft, shiny, clean, and, most of all, healthy.

Pine tar solid shampoo bar

A popular Itch Relief solid shampoo contains 15% Stockholm pine tar.
Pine tar has been used for 100s of years to help with itchy, inflamed skin.
I used to use a solid shampoo for dandruff in the 70s called Cedel Soap and can’t seem to find the same product, so I’ve made my own!
This shampoo comes close to what I remember.
It is unfragranced but has a faint sweet, earthy smell and is made from olive oil, palm oil (sustainable), sesame oil, coconut oil, rice bran oil, castor oil, sunflower oil, beeswax and 15% Stockholm pine tar.

Great for treating dandruff, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, itchy and inflamed skin.

Also suitable as a dog shampoo to help settle itchy and inflammed skin and to help keep away fleas and insects naturally.

About beeswax

Protectant

Acting as a surfactant, beeswax, when blended into cold creams and other skin lotions, forms a protective barrier on the surface of the skin. This barrier, according to Koster Keunan, a global organic wax supplier, provides a film of protection against irritants while still allowing the skin to breathe.

This barrier may also aid in protecting the tender skin on your lips. The Mayo Clinic recommends using a lip balm that contains beeswax during cold weather to reduce your chances of developing chapped lips.

Skin absorbsion

In our increasingly polluted modern world, it is important to do all we can to avoid increasing the toxin load in our bodies. More and more people are choosing to eat organically grown foods and drink clean water, and many people choose to use all natural skin care products as well.

While it is easy to understand why we should choose organically grown foods, just how important is it to avoid synthetic ingredients in body care products?

An understanding of the nature of skin, and how ingredients in skin care products might actually penetrate the skin to be delivered into the blood stream, can help us see why it is imperative we avoid synthetic ingredients at all costs.

SPF – sun protection factor

Some natural oils offer SPF protection from the sun that is better than protection found in any commercially produced sunscreen – and it’s chemical free!

Shea Butter – not an oil but derived from the fat of the shea nut. Shea butter melts at body temperature and absorbs rapidly into the skin without leaving a greasy feeling. It contains the antioxidants, vitamins A and E both of which enhance skin cell regeneration and promote blood circulation below the skin’s surface. Cinnamic acid in the oil provides vital protection against harmful UV rays. Its rich emoillient quality maks it excellent for very dry skin. SPF 6-8

Psoriasis treatment

Psoriasis is an auto immune disease, and sufferers are often genetically predisposed to the condition.

It is an extremely annoying and persistent skin disorder which is difficult to completely eradicate.
AS OF JANUARY 2016 I’VE BEEN FREE OF SCALP PSORIASIS. I attribute this to my change in diet, use of my natural shampoos and conditioner, avoiding stress and practising yoga regularly. Yay!!!

There is no known cure for psoriasis and sufferers often are extremely debiliated by this disorder, restricting their daily lives in many ways.

Natural sunscreen by beepure

Our sunscreen uses our basic skin cream with zinc oxide added to make a SPF20 product that is perfect for everyday use for the whole family.
Excellent as a facial moisturiser to provide mild sun protection from incidental sun exposure during the day.
Please note that this is NOT waterproof and must be reapplied after swimming, exercise or any activity that might remove it.

Great for the whole body – face, hands, arms, shoulders, legs.

Please note that exposure to the midday sun will result in your skin burning, especially in summer.
Avoid the midday sun and try to minimise exposure. Do not sunbake or use tanning beds.
The harmful UV rays of the sun damage the skin, cause premature aging and can cause skin cancer.

Skin creams and body lotions by beepure

Our skin cream uses the finest beeswax and oils with rainwater and essential oils added.
Ingredients include extra virgin olive oil, beeswax, shea butter, palm oil (certified sustainable), rainwater, rosehip oil, vitamin E oil, evening primrose oil, natural preservative, ylang ylang and patchouli (or other essential oils).
The resulting cream is quite thick and creamy.

Because the skin cream contains water, the product is susceptible to mould and bacteria. Therefore the shelf life of the product is reduced considerably and it is recommended that it be used within 6 months. It is also recommended that the cream be kept in a cool area away from sunlight and heat. This will improve the longevity of the product.

The short shelf life is one of the tradeoffs of using completely natural ingredients and it is why we keep the containers small to reduce wastage.

THIS IS A NATURAL PRODUCT THAT WILL ONLY LAST AROUND 6 MONTHS.
When not in use, keep in the fridge or in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight.
To avoid cross contamination, always use a clean stainless steel spoon or toothpick to dip into the cream – never your finger!
As soon as mould or discolouration appears, throw away the remainder of the product.

As a northern beaches girl, I’ve grown up under the harsh Aussie sun and have the skin to prove it! I’m passionate about natural skin care products that will nourish, moisturise and hydrate the skin and be good for the entire body.

Several skim balms are also available – white salve and comfrey balm. These are made without water so have a long shelf life. They are very useful to protect the skin and to help treat psoriasis, eczema and irritated skin conditions.
